Thank you to everyone who came out to the Lunar New Year Party on Monday and helped get 2012 off to a great start. We made dumplings, mingled and feasted on our handiwork!

Come catch up with AAJA members and friends as we look forward to an exciting year of events and programming. This is also a great time to renew your AAJA membership for 2012.

Apply for our 2012 scholarships

Applications are being accepted for the 2012 Broadcast and Print Scholarships.

The recipient of the 2012 David Ibata Print Scholarship will spend the summer working at RedEye, a sister publication of the Chicago Tribune.

The recipient of the 2012 Linda Yu Broadcast Scholarship will work at CBS 2 in Chicago.

Both winners will each receive a $2,500 scholarship award.

Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15, 2012.

Congratulations to our 2011 AAJA-Chicago scholarship winners!

Rowena Li, who just finished her junior year at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, is the recipient of the Linda Yu Broadcast scholarship. In addition to winning a $2,500 stipend, Rowena will spend the summer at WGN-9 working with Nancy Loo, one of our long-time broadcast members. Rowena just finished an internship in Billings, Montana, at KULR-8.

Ariel Cheung, who will be a senior at the University of Cincinnati, is the David Ibata Print scholarship winner. The chapter is placing Ariel at the Chicago Sun-Times. Ariel is the managing editor of her college newspaper and has interned at the Dayton Daily News.

Student night at Northwestern

The panel starts at 6 p.m. and a networking reception will follow. Come to the McCormick Tribune Center in Evanston, Room 3-107.

Come hear Rummana Hussain, AAJA-Chicago’s Vice president of print and a reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times, speak on a “Covering Islam” panel at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27^th in Roosevelt University’s Gage Gallery at 18 S. Michigan Ave.

She will be joined by Ray Hanania, an independent journalist, blogger and radio show host; Kristin Szremski, director of media and communications for American Muslims for Palestine, and Javed Riaz of the Urdu Times.

Walk away with tips and tricks and an online resource — for Google Search, Hot Trends, Insights, Reader, News, Maps, and more.

High school students from around Chicago got a taste of broadcast, print and online journalism during a half-day skills workshop hosted at WLS-ABC 7′s State Street studio.

The event, hosted by Angie Lau of Bloomberg News and Gene Kang of WHAS-11 in Louisville, KY, featured a studio tour and instruction from professionals including:
