Summer Cocktail Party

It’s summer! Join the chapter for food, drinks and conversation with special guest Mei-Ling Hopgood, author of Lucky Girl and How Eskimos Keep Their Babies Warm. WBEZ is generously hosting and providing treats, and we’ll also have beer courtesy of Goose Island.

 Mei-Ling Hopgood is the author of Lucky Girl and How Eskimos Keep Their Babies Warm. She’s also a freelance journalist who has written for various publications, ranging from National Geographic Traveler and Marie Claire to the Miami Herald and the Boston Globe. She has worked as a reporter with the Detroit Free Press, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and in the Cox Newspapers Washington bureau. A recipient of the National Headliner Best in Show, she has received several national and international journalism awards. She is an associate professor at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Visit her website here.

2012 Linda Yu Broadcast Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to Natalie Cheng, this year’s recipient of the Linda Yu Broadcast Scholarship!

Natalie will be entering her junior year at the University of Missouri. She is double majoring in business and journalism, focusing on entrepreneurial, emerging and converged media. In addition to taking classes, she has been a producer and reporter at mid-Missouri’s NBC affiliate, KOMU-TV, the multimedia editor for the university’s student paper, a reporter for NPR affiliate KBIA and a producer and marketing team member for the Mandarin branch of media startup Newsy. Natalie is from Lisle, Ill., but went to high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Natalie will spend this summer interning at WBBM-CBS 2 in Chicago. The scholarship is given in honor of AAJA-Chicago Chapter co-founder and WLS ABC 7 anchor Linda Yu.
